What do you want to DO (not BE) when you grow up?

Try this:

Ask a young person, “What do you want to BE when you grow up?”

99% of the time, you’ll be answered with a noun (usually in the form of a job role or title, for example, I want to be a teacher.  I want to be a banker.  I want to be a chef).

What if you asked instead:

WHAT DO YOU WANT TO DO WHEN YOU GROW UP?

When you ask, what do you want to do, you allow the mind to come into a creation space.  You are not limited to a role or title or task. You are allowed to experience joy in producing and creating something as far as your heart and mind allows!  This question is actually an expanding question.  It expands the mind to be authentic, to function in the act of creation, and to create in possibilities.

This is very different from the BE verb.  While a BE verb can also produce an adjective, such as I want to be kind, I want to be famous, or I want to impactful, the default thinking we tend to have (and are trained to have) is to BE something tangible and measurable.  This is the human doing way.  Something that we can put in a box and have clearly defined.  It is limiting and constrained and that’s the type of thinking it creates, which in turns, outputs a certain answer.

DO is a verb that creates more VERBs, which is the foundation for creation. This is what makes inserting this into the question so different and powerful. We expand into possibilities and that creates excitement!

Just some food for thought!
